Preserve the evidence

Do not overwrite or delete saves. Record whether you were solo or co-op, who hosted, death location, terrain, time, carried items, and build number.

Retrace from the last confirmed landmark and check nearby elevation or collision edges. Take screenshots of the expected location and map state.

Compare session state

Have the host and guest check the location separately. Restart the session once, then stop repeated risky tests if each attempt could overwrite recovery state.

Reduce future loss

Until the behavior is clarified, explore with a limited loadout and keep a repair-and-food reserve at the homestead. This is risk management, not proof that every death loses items.
